Actually you could at least start to play the game at hcp 100 without the mouse if you have a touchpad in your laptop which is not too small and relatively precise.

I would recommend that you open the options menu in the game (upper right corner) and try to lower the mouse sensitivity which will make a touch pad much more controllable

But as Nick suggested, if you want to take full control on your swing, a mouse is definitely the way to go :)
