Sweet spot prob
First of all I don't know if this problem is on the forum as I don't see a search (the only search I see is for other players). So if there is a topic search on the forum please let me know so I don't do a dupe. Thanks

OK on to question: When I hit ball straight I can't hardly get past 60% but when I do a draw or hook it's almost always in the sweet spot and goes much further (haven't tried cut yet lol). Anyone know how I can be as effective hitting sweet spot hitting straight as draws? Been on driving range a lot trying to figure this out but I'm stumped. Thanks.
Intreresting.

There's a few things here I believe.

Length.
1) When very high in HCP you can't hit that far. As you go lower in HCP you get more and more unlocks. Those gives you more and more power. Plus a few other things. Check in your profile in Unlocks. Move the cursor over the unlocks and you can see under the unlocks how they change as you go lower in HCP.

2) If you play in Performance mode there is a bug in that you can't hit as far as you otherwise can. This bug is being worked on so there will be in improvement in this area pretty soon.

In the game, if you click on Options and then Graphics you can set the Graphical Quality to either Performance or Quality. You can try Quality and at the same time set Autotune to On in Labs. If you then have problems with lag, turn back Autotune to Off and Mode to Performance. This lag problem is also being worked on.

Autotune finds the best graphical setting for the computer you're playing on. But if even the lowest setting in Quality mode doesn't work then you have to manually set it to Performance mode and turn Autotune to Off.
Thanks Lennart. I'll give it all a try buy don't think it's a graphic or performance issue. You know after each hit it shows you when on the club head ball made contact and almost every time I went for a straight hit the "contact mark" would just be outside the sweet circle toward the toe and no matter what I did I couldn't bring it inside sweet spot (and 58% seemed to be the average power) whereas when I purposely did a draw or hook (arced mouse) the power would bee anywhere from 70 - 90% but would go left obviously. I'd prefer not to be playing draw all the time (as some pros do lol) although those yardages are nice. Anyway I'll check the stuff you wrote - thanks.
Hi Pappy, you could also tried to adjust your mouse sensitivity when you are in game. There is a button called Option on the upper right corner. As for always hit 58%, you could try to move your mouse a little faster when you are comfortable with the swing or following the curve. Speed matters for the power you get too.
I would like to invite you for a game to see how I could help. When would you be online approximately?
One other fun way would be playing with other players as much as you can, so you would find out more functions or tips or answers to questions.
Hi there Pappy,

Had exactly the same issues as you when I first arrived here - still do sometimes!!!!

One of the reasons I'm enjoying the OnGolf experience is the real challenge in making a decent swing. You are right to assume that the sweet spot on the club is important to gaining that extra distance you feel is lacking. The essence of OnGolf is that you are not guaranteed a 100% golf swing every time unless you are perfect everytime - hence the more realistic challenge.

I found the following to be of use:

1) Adjust mouse sensitivity to around 0.4 or 0.5 if you are having difficulty following the swing path accurately. Depends on the mouse you are using a little.....if 0.4 or 0.5 is either too mechanical or too lose, you will need to experiment in the range.

2) A fast mouse swing does not always produce full power - far from it. Try swinging slower to keep the mouse on track with the swing path, and especially get the white track ball of the swing path as square to the ball as you can just before impact.

3) The swing path is generally curved - I find that if I maintain a curved swing path right up to the point that the white track marker meets the ball, and then straighten the swing a little for a 'straight' path, this helps make a higher % impact on the sweet spot and helps keep the shot straight.

However - you will find like real golf that you will be more successful some days and not others!! One evening I hit two 9-hole rounds both below par. The next morning I lost count how many shots I made....

You are always welcome to have a bash around the links with me at any time - you'll see very quickly that most of us have good and bad days!!!! Hope you stick at it - it's worth it and great fun around here.

Excellent post loveclose. Thank you for supplementing and sharing your personal experience. Also thank you for your compliment. Surely make us wanna work even harder to make the game a better experience! Keep posting!
Nope not working out. When I hit in sweet spot my club must not be square as I would then get either a hook or draw. The most consistent way for me to hit straight is to draw the mouse straight back (left to right) rather then coming back on an arc as I can't come in square as I said before. Oh how I miss the RTS in Links2003 where you go come down with the mouse (backswing) and then "hit" ball by going up with the mouse. Maybe I need a diagram lol. Maybe someday I'll get it.
What bothers me most is after I go to the range to perfect a swing technique, it doesn't translate to the course I'm playing.

With the level I'm at now the sweet spots are almost perfect every time with my irons. Yet, with the D-3-5 clubs I'm always hooking the shot. (No, I haven't figured that one out yet). Will my accuracy improve with more unlocks?

I love this game but it really is frustrating at times.

Shuxian, you're really really cute Want to cuddle?
Hi TurfmanJones,
Driving range is just to practice, it is the same in real life that there is no guarantee that it's totally translate into course. Although with time it should be better.
It's true that D-3-5 clubs are more difficult to handle than iron. Just takes practice and a little more luck then you should be able to hit perfect swings:) Cheers!
Try play with other users, I found it useful to get better on this game:)
writing in forum to unlock. thanks
same with me
